Sergeant - Indiana County Jail
The Indiana County Jail is seeking an experienced and motivated Sergeant to serve as a first-line supervisor responsible for the leadership, direction, and oversight of Correctional Officers. The Sergeant will assist in maintaining the safety, security, and orderly operation of the facility while ensuring compliance with jail policies, procedures, and applicable regulations. The successful candidate must demonstrate professionalism, integrity, sound judgment, dependability, and the ability to make effective decisions in high-stress situations.
Minimum qualifications include a minimum of five (5) years of corrections experience and at least two (2) years of demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience. Previous supervisory experience in a correctional or detention setting is preferred. The Sergeant must possess strong communication, organizational, conflict resolution, and leadership skills and be capable of coaching staff, addressing performance concerns, maintaining accountability, and handling confidential information appropriately.
Essential responsibilities include supervising and directing correctional officers, maintaining facility security and inmate accountability, overseeing counts, inspections, searches, and security procedures, responding to emergencies and critical incidents, reviewing reports, ensuring effective shift communication, assisting staff with training and investigations, and addressing operational issues as directed by command staff. The ideal candidate must work both effectively both as part of a team and independently, demonstrate fairness and consistency when enforcing rules and policies, and be willing to work varying shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as operational needs require.
