Image of Blair County
Blair County
Blair County, founded in 1846, lies within the Allegheny Mountains. The county seat is located in Hollidaysburg, with its largest city being Altoona. Its rich history reflects the broader American story, shaped by early Native American presence, frontier settlement, iron production, and the rise of the railroad industry. Altoona emerged as a major rail hub in the 19th century, with the famous Horseshoe Curve symbolizing the county’s engineering and transportation legacy.

Today, Blair County offers a mix of historical and outdoor attractions, including the Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site, Railroaders Memorial Museum, scenic overlooks, trails, and family destinations like Lakemont Park.

The county’s economy includes healthcare, education, manufacturing, and service industries, while still honoring its industrial roots. Blair County remains a vibrant blend of history, recreation, and economic resilience in central Pennsylvania.
