Community/Land Use Planner
Union County is seeking a full-time Community/Land Use Planner to join our Planning team. This position plays a key role in reviewing subdivision and land development proposals, guiding the public through land use regulations, and supporting long-range planning efforts that shape the future of Union County.
The Community/Land Use Planner reviews subdivision and land development plans for completeness and compliance with County codes and regulations. This position provides technical guidance to the public, developers, contractors, and other professionals regarding zoning, land use, application procedures, and regulatory requirements. The Planner also prepares reports, conducts research, drafts ordinance amendments, supports Planning Commission activities, and assists with public information materials.
Salary Range: $43,472 - $45,673 (Based on Experience)
Key Responsibilities
- Review subdivision and land development plans for accuracy and compliance with County regulations.
- Conduct site visits and prepare written plan review recommendations.
- Provide information to citizens, developers, and contractors on zoning, land use, and application procedures.
- Assist in drafting and updating zoning and subdivision ordinances.
- Attend Planning Commission and related meetings; prepare reports and background research.
- Create informational materials and support general Planning Department functions.
- Assists with implementation of comprehensive plan priorities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Urban/Regional Planning, Geography, Environmental Planning, or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in land use planning or community development (local government experience preferred).
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license required.
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Must be proficient in using Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite and have a basic understanding of ArcGIS.
