NACo Webinar: Reporting Guidance For The Recovery Act |

JULY 16, 2009: REGISTRATION REQUIRED
NACo is offering a series of free, Leading in Tough Times webinars to provide information and ideas about coping and recovering from the recession. The next webinar will be held on Thursday, July 16 at 2:00 p.m. and will focus on the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act reporting requirements. The first ARRA report is due October 10.

ARRA Reporting Guidance Available |

REPORTING RESOURCE POSTED
The White House Office of Management and Budget released "Implementing Guidance for the Reports on Use of Funds Pursuant to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009" on Monday, June 22. The purpose is to provide agencies and funding recipients with information to implement the reporting requirements included in Section 1512 of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Act 32 - EIT Webinar |

AVAILABLE ONLINE FOR LIMITED TIME
For a limited time, county officials are invited to view a broadcast of a recent webinar featuring information on Act 32. The webinar was first broadcast on June 22 live from the WITF studios in Harrisburg. CCAP Executive Director Doug Hill provides the introduction.
Act 32, passed by the legislature and signed by the Governor on July 2, 2008, amends and completely restates the Local Tax Enabling Act (LTEA).

NACo Offering Pretrial Services Technical Assistance |

APPLICATION DEADLINE AUGUST 14
NACo and Pretrial Justice Institute, in partnership with the Bureau of Justice Assistance, is offering free technical assistance to counties interested in implementing pretrial services strategies. Sites selected for assistance will receive an analysis of their current jail population using electronically available data provided by the applicants. Site visits will be made to selected counties to interview key stakeholders and to observe the current pretrial process. Staff will develop draft recommendations tailored to each county's specific needs, and will continue to provide off-site support to county officials through the next several months of implementation.

MA Payments To Nursing Homes For Direct Medical Services |

PAYMENTS WILL CONTINUE
DPW has confirmed that payments to nursing homes and hospitals will continue for direct medical services provided for consumers enrolled in the Medical Assistance program. These payments also apply to Medicaid services paid through PROMISE to waiver providers. Payments for items that are not for direct medical services to MA enrollees such as Medical Education or disproportionate share payments will not be paid until a FY 2009-2010 budget is finalized.

Integrated Care Initiative Listening Sessions |

SESSIONS BEGIN AUGUST 7
The Department of Aging and Office of Long-Term Living are working with Medicare Advantage plans in the State to develop a new voluntary option that would be offered through existing Medicare managed care plans, called the "Integrated Care Initiative". It is for people who are at least 60 years old and who receive both Medicare and Medicaid. This program is anticipated to cover the costs of most of Medicare and Medicaid services, including medical services, in-home care, nursing home care, prescription drugs and medical equipment. The administration has scheduled listening sessions to provide information about the program and to receive questions and concerns.

NACo Health Care Reform Project |

CONSIDER PASSING A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT
The debate in Washington, DC, over how to fix America's health system is reaching a critical stage. Congressional committees are rolling out draft legislation and leaders are planning to have votes by the end of July.
NACo is asking counties to help NACo in their advocacy efforts by adopting resolutions endorsing NACo's health reform principles as outlines in their white paper, "Restoring the Partnership for American Health: Counties in a 21st Century Health System".
